Dear Happiness, I am still waiting for the day you
will come and stay with me. I have never
met you since childhood. You didn’t give
me the privilege of having rich parents.
And even though I have been able to do well for myself, I am still not
happy because after 6 years of marriage, though I have 2 beautiful girls, I
don’t have a son.
Dear Happiness, you know I love a size 8 woman and
that’s why I married my wife. But after
giving birth to our 4 children all through cesarean section, she has only been
able to lose the baby weight to size 10.
Now I don’t enjoy making love to her.
I believe many of us will be excited at the
opportunity to write letters to Happiness because most of us have become so
tired in our search for happiness that we wish like Aladdin, we had a Happiness
magic lamp.
Some of us will soliloquy, “Happiness Genie, I want a
wife with the voice of Whitney Houston, the body of Beyonce with the wealth of
Oprah Winfrey. Or Happiness Genie,
transform my husband’s body to that of Christiano Ronaldo and give him the
wealth of Bill Gates.”
Funny enough, some people can have all these
supposedly ideal features in their spouses and yet still cheat with someone who
lacks them.
King Ahab in 1 Kings 21 had most of the best vineyards
in Israel and yet he was not happy and kill Naboth for his. Guess what? Having Naboth’s didn’t make him
happier either.
One of the secrets of happiness in life is
contentment. Yes CONTENTNESS!! The eyes
of man is never satisfied. Most people think
contentness means mediocrity. This is
not true.
Contentment is learning to appreciate them and be
happy with what you have today whiles working on improving on the future. In other words, making a conscious decision
to enjoy what you have, knowing that others might never be able to have them.
“…To be content with what you can provide” is a phrase
in our marriage vow. Within this phrase
in our marriage lies one of the keys to happiness.
Happiness in marriage is a product of 2 people who are
content with each other at every given moment.
Instead of constantly murmuring about what your spouse lacks, start
thanking God for the virtues they possess and you will realize how privileged
you are to have them.
There are people who resent their parents because they
are poor. Who told you that having rich
parents would have made you happy in life?
I have seen physically challenged people achieve great things in life
whiles some able bodied people are sad because some parts of their bodies are
not nice to them.
