7 THINGS THE ANT TEACHES ABOUT STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP

Go to the ant, you sluggard! consider her ways and be wise, which having no captain, overseer or ruler, provides her supplies in the summer, and gathers her food in the harvest.” Pro 6:6-8

It is really amazing how a small insect like the ant who has no leader over them but van manage its own affairs.  The ant is so wise and intuitive that even humans can learn a great deal of wisdom and leadership from them…

1)      The ant teaches that strategic leadership is prediction.  Strategic leaders are able to see ahead of the time and take certain decisions and implement it for the betterment of his followers or subjects.  An example of such visionary leader is Ghana’s first Prime minister, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, who saw 50 years ahead of his generation; for the country to enjoy electricity, then there is the need to build a dam…Nkrumah predicted and he was right!  He saw the vision clearly and implemented it - the rest is history.  As of today Akosombo Dam is still useful today.  The ant could predict the coming of winter.

2)      The ant teaches that strategic leadership is pre-meditation:  The ant thinks ahead.  “The most powerful tool for success is the mind” So to become a good leader, you need to occupy your mind with solutions to problems…your whole thinking should be about how to eat that elephant in your way because the essence of leadership is to solve problems.

3)      The ant teaches that strategic leadership is pro-action: the ant act through action.  Action is doing things on time.  Reaction is doing thing late.  Pro-action is doing things ahead of time.  Your ability to predict a problem and acting ahead to provide solution is crucial and important for you as a leader

4)      The ant teaches that strategic leadership is progression: The ant move forward.  Life is progressive; you move from stage to stage… it’s a process you can’t jump.  As a leader, your leadership ability is justified by your results; are you able to move your team forward? Are you able to achieve that goal? Are you able to break your previous record and set new ones? If yes then you are making progress!

“Most people talk, we do things.  They play, we achieve, they hesitate, we move ahead.”

HH Sheikh Mohamed Bin Rasheed.

Vice president and Prime minister of UAE, Ruler of Dubai.

5)      The ant teaches that strategic leadership is preparation.  The ant saw the coming of winter and prepared ahead.  The most amazing thing is how do these little animals saw the coming of winter?  It is because they have the potential of leadership abilities embed in them.  Leaders see ahead.  Opportunity + Preparation = Success

6)      The ant teaches that strategic leadership is precedence.  When the ant move in queue, they live a trail.  In the same way, follow people who have succeeded in their various fields and learn from them – Let their success stories motivate you and guide you towards your own success.

7)      The ant teaches that strategic leadership is providence: the ant realizes that it can’t do anything about the weather but to submit to the authority of God.  Put God first in all that you do. Build a relationship with Jesus, it will change your life…  “In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your path” Pro 3:6
