It is very common practice in organization for people
to look for ways to undermine others, especially those who just joined the
organization and seem to be doing better than them.
Some years ago, my General Overseer (G.O) began
to speak heartily about a young man who was contributing tremendously towards
the success of his programs outside Accra, the capital of Ghana.
As the next in command to him (my G.O), I could
have felt insecure. I am very sure many
people in a similar position as mine would have tried to discredit that young
man out of jealousy and insecurity to win the heart of the leader. But I did no such thing. Instead, I enquired from him what he was
doing so well to help me improve in my services to my G.O.
In the Biblical account of Cain and his brother
Abel, the former felt killing Abel was the best way he could react to the
rejection of his offering by God. And he
did; but that did not improve his situation in anyway. He would have become a better person if he
had humbled himself and to know the secret to the success of his younger
brother. (See Genesis 4:3-10)
If you lack the humility to learn
from others, you deny yourself the opportunity to succeed
Have you started a church, company or project
that has not been doing well over the years? Be humble enough to learn from
those who are doing better than you, even if you started before them.
Success in life is not about age or how long you
have been working on a particular thing.
It is not about you having the right keys and applying them. It took the young lad, David to bring victory
to Israel by defeating Goliath while there were other well-built, old and
experienced soldiers and warriors like King Saul himself and David’s elder
brothers.
Don’t act like Cain. Don’t hate people because of their success;
but let their success inspire you to step up your game.
It is a new day.
Make the best of the opportunity you have. Improve on your life by learning from those
who are excelling in your field.
