There are some mistakes that when we make can defraud us
of the blessings of the future but irrespective of this mistakes and decision,
there is always a lesson to learn. Mistakes are common in life but there are
certain mistakes that have generational consequences.
Saul become king of Israel in 1Sam 9 but lost the privilege to
be king in 1Sam 16 because of disobedience (a decision he took). There are mistakes that are
expensive. There are decisions that when
you take, will have a generational consequences on you as in the case of
Saul. God commanded him to go to Amalek
and utterly destroy everything; man, woman, children, animals but Saul did not
obey the Lord fully. He spared the best
of the cattle and the sheep which he was to destroy. This decision or mistake cost him his throne
and the Lord strip him of been king.
There are mistakes that when you make them in life, it
takes color out of your life and brings generational delay. The mistakes to
avoid:
1. To surrender
your faith in God to another man or situation. Never surrender your faith in God to difficult
situations being it financial pressure, delay marriage or pressure from
friends. Saul disobey God because of the people, those following him. So even his leadership ability is
questionable. He should rather listen to
God than the people following him but because of the pressure they were giving
him he listen to them than God.
2. Taking your
spiritual life for granted. “And do not be conformed to this world, but be
transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is good and
acceptable and perfect will of God.” [Rom 12:2]
If you don’t become spiritually strong through the study of the word and
holiness, a small illiterate demon can make nonsense of your life.
3. Not having a
personal relationship with the Holy Spirit.
One of the biggest mistake you can make is to ignore the Holy Spirit in
your life. David was wise and
understanding that even when he sinned, he pleaded with God not to take the
Holy Spirit from him because he knows the value and the significance of the
Holy Spirit in his life. [Psalm 51:11] In order to enjoy a peaceful and a good
life, give prominence to the Holy Spirit and always seek his guidance in your
life. He is a leader, He is a comforter, a counsellor, and a teacher [John
14:26]
4. Refusing to build your faith. Faith comes by hearing and hearing the word of God; nothing more nothing less. Faith is a currency used to purchase spiritual things. Faith is what makes all things possible. “For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain be removed and be cast into the sea, and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.” Mark 11:23. Faith is very important in our Christian life. Kenneth Hagin, American preacher and evangelist was born with a deformed heart, something that was incurable. But Kenneth testifies that he receive his healing when he was reading Mark 11:23 – 24. According to him, he receive faith through this scripture and God healed him. So faith is the strong pillar in our Christian life.
5. Wasting your most productive years. There is a time and season for everything so don’t waste time on things that won’t profit you. The first 25 years of your life is a learning stage so this is the time to invest in your mind and learn new things for the future. Take advantage of this period and make good use of it.
6. Not discovering and pursuing your purpose. Knowing your purpose is the best thing that could ever happen to you. Your purpose steer your life in a certain direction thus avoiding the confusion that we sometimes experience in our life. You see purpose will help you to know the people to walk with, purpose will help you to know the person to marry, your purpose will guide you to know the places to go and even the books to read.

7. Working in a place where your dreams cannot receive interpretation. Let’s say you are great speaker or you love talking and giving advice and counsel and you happen to find yourself in a place (let’s say accountant or administrator instead of media) where your talent doesn’t synchronize with the job you are doing, then you should consider your decision.
8. Becoming a Gehazi instead of Elisha. The Gehazis of life are soo much into pleasures of life without working for them. They want to live a certain kind of life but are not willing to work for it. The Gehazis of life want to fly in first class whiles they are working for economy. They want to receive things without doing. They want to enjoy sex whiles they are not married. Elisha pay the price to receive the mantle.
9. Operating in the school of ingratitude and forgetfulness. Remember the people who helped you in one way or the other. The people who fed you and even gave you a place to sleep, those who introduce you to certain people. The people who gave you good counsel. Please don’t forget them. Don’t be an ingrate. Make a list of all those who have once helped you and find a way of showing gratitude to them.
10. Taking for granted those closest to you – when God establish you, help those in your inner circle; your family, friends, spouse. We have the mentality that if you give someone a shoulder to stand on, they will become better than you or more popular than you and this is common in Africa. We rise by lifting others up.
11. Making financial independence the least of your worries. Let financial independence fuel your passion to make money in the right way. Most people are following their passions but they are hungry. When you are financially independent, you can follow any passion that you desire.
12. Refusing to start where you are with what you have. Don’t despise humble beginnings. Start that business right away with what you have, start that relationship even if you fear of heartbreak - who knows, that relationship might lead to marriage.
13. Allowing forces that seeks to keep you down to put you in prison. This forces can be the mistakes of your past, demonic forces, financial challenges or even your country. Break out of this prison!
14. Do not allow excuses and other limitations to put a link on your dream; being it your background, financial limitation, environmental limitation, family limitation. Limitation is just a monster that we create in our minds. Dare to dream that you more than a conqueror.
15. Marrying for where you are instead of where you are going. Don’t marry based on the looks only, marry for the purpose you are going to fulfill. Having the right person in your life can help you to fulfill that purpose.
