Pornography? What is it?

Statistics show that all internet porn traffic takes place in the 9am to 5pm on workdays.  According to 1DC – a source of global market intelligence, 30% to 40% of internet use in the workplace is unrelated to business.  21% of all adult content is accessed from work.  Meanwhile 70% of employees surveyed by NFO worldwide admit to viewing or sending adult oriented e-mail at work.  Pornography is destroying peoples’ life, and their marriages. 

In December 2000, the National Coalition to protect children and families surveyed five Christian campuses on sexual purity to ascertain what the next generation of believers are doing with regards to sexual purity: it was deduced that; 48% of males admitted to current porn use.  68% said that they viewed sexually explicit website at school.

In 1996, Promise Keepers surveyed men at one of their stadium events revealed that over 50% who attended were involved with pornography within one week of the event.

On April 6, 2007, a CNN article by Jason Rovou was published about porn addiction; 70% of Christians admitted to struggling with porn in their daily lines.   This is a real problem for religious people.  It’s a problem that is affecting the Lord’s church and it seems that our pastors are not preaching about it.  ‘I encourage pastors to preach and teach the youth in their church concerning pornography, sex and masturbation’.  Someone can go to church and return home to view porn in secret.

Someone has said that the 4A’s of the internet has caused porn to explode with growth.  These are: Accessibility, Affordability, Anonymity, and Addiction.

THE COST OF PORNOGRAPHY

In every second $3075.64 is spent on pornography.  28,258 internet users are viewing pornography every second.  In every second, 372 internet users are typing adult search terms.  A new pornographic video is being created in the US every 39 minutes.

 

The porn industry brings in more revenue than the top technology companies combined: Microsoft, google, amazon, ebay, yahoo, apple, Netflix.

Statistics of 2003 state that these industry brings in $57 billion per year in world-wide revenue according to internetfilterviewer.com.  $12 billion of this comes from the sex industry with revenue which is even more than the combined revenue of abc, CBS, NBC.

In 2003, Barna Research Group conducted a survey regarding American’s view on pornography:

38% of adults believe it is “morally accepted” to look at pictures of nudity or explicit sexual behavior.   59% of adults believe it is morally acceptable to have sexual thoughts or fantasies.  38% of adults believe that there is nothing wrong with pornography use.

HOW DOES PEOPLE GET USED TO PORNOGRAPHY

People confirm they were first expose to pornography by seeing a nude picture of a woman.  Some say they were exposed to it by a photo of a model in a magazine.

In 2003, the average at which children were exposed to porn via the internet was 11 years old.  [www.healthymind.com]. Also the largest consumer of internet pornography is the 12 – 17 age group.

Porn addict states “once you become addicted to it you look for more potent, more explicit, more graphic kinds of material.  You keep craving something which is harder and gives you a greater sense of excitement until you reach the point where the pornography only goes so far – that jumping off point where you begin to think maybe actually doing it will give you that which is just beyond reading about it and looking at it.

1.      Physical effect

 It makes you want more of it which you can be privy to be addicted.  Many respected scientist and Psychiatrist have concluded that pornography is an addiction like alcohol or drug abuse.

How does porn affect your brain?

Whiles watching that sexually explicit content, 3 chemicals are released during the process:

ii) Dopamine: It helps focuses your attention and energy on pron. 

·         It makes you ignore the negatives and makes your mind weak in the sense that nothing can happen to you.

·         It triggers ecstasy or unusual feelings.

ii) Norepinephrine:  It helps you to recall the slightest detail of that porn image experience.  And it seared or embossed in the brain making it difficult to forget.  This is the reason why most people still remember the several escapades many years ago.

iii) Oxytoxin: “cuddle chemical” it was first discovered in the brain of mothers who are holding their new child.  It is released when people embrace, hold hands, kiss or when they have sex – it’s a bonding chemical.  So imagine if you are bonded to pornographic image; is that serious.

2) Marital effect:

Sometimes counsellor’s advice that couple should watch porn together to boost their sex life - but the idea that pornography is good for marriage is bad.  It has a devastating effect on marriage in the long run. 

Pornography desensitize the viewer on their own spouse so viewing it makes you to see the imperfection of your partner because these porn stars are very beautiful, slim and good in shape.  So in the end your spouse will think of finding someone else that is sexy like the porn stars.

ii) It hurt the self-esteem on the spouse.  In marriage relationship, it’s crushing the wife that she couldn’t satisfy her husband sexually so she begin to ask questions about herself…This is the point where self-doubt and low self-esteem set in.  This intend create a wall between herself and her husband.

So if you hear voices that porn is good for marriage, know that it is the devil talking.

3) Financial effect:

12 billion is spent annually on the sex industry every year in the US.  So where is the money coming from?  The money is coming bank account, savings and investment from those who buy the CDs or Pay to watch it online.  Gradually Pornography begins to suck your money little by little and before you realize you already broke.  

ii) It is estimated that 5 billion work hours are lost to cyber porn in the US each year.

Nearly 1 out of 3 companies has terminated an employee for inappropriate web use.  Business week conducted a survey and found out that 44% of US workers with an internet connection admitted to accessing an X rated website at work in the month of March 2004.

4) Spiritual effect:

It put a war between you and God. When a person is engage in pornography, it put a war between them and God.  [Psalm 66:18]  Your prayer, worship and offering won’t please God because you are not holy.  Pornography makes you dirty in the spirit.
