The proof of desire is pursuit.
The proof of a strong desire is persistence.
When I was in Junior High School, our school teacher
informed us of a competition among the schools in our locality which he wanted
us to participate in.
I came up with the idea to make soap since I had
already seen the soap making process in a book I was reading. This idea seem to
excite my teacher when I discussed it with him.
So I went to the market to get the ingredients I
needed, but when I tried making the soap I couldn’t get the expected result I
wanted and that was the end of my soap project.
When my teacher asked me in front of the class about
my soap project, I answered: “I tried but it did not work”. I thought to myself that I deserved to be congratulated
for making an effort in honest, I didn’t try enough.
Who knows? I could have become successful in the soap
industry if I had persisted but I gave up some few attempts. Over the years, I have learnt the principle
of “digging another well”.
In Genesis 26:19 – 24, we read of how Isaac faced a
lot of opposition when he went out to dig a well in search of water for his
household. Anytime he dug a well, his
adversaries will contend with him and forcefully take it from him. But he never gave up whenever contentions
arose concerning any of the wells he had dug.
He simply moved on from there and dug another well until he got what he
wanted.
“It has been said that necessity is
the mother of invention but without perseverance we can achieve nothing of
notable worth in life.” Vincent Bannerman
The number of times you fail at doing something is not
a sign that you lack the ability to succeed at it. “Dig another well”
Interpret failure as a lesson learned for future
success and dig another well with the lessons learnt.
When the first well God dug failed (Adam), He dug
another well (Jesus).
Never let the presence of opposition stop you from
going for your position.
If Isaac had given up on his first experience of
digging a well, he would never have enjoyed his Rehoboth.
