9 REASONS WHY YOU MUST BE A SHEPHERD

“And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all that he has given me, but raise them up at the last day  NIV [John 6:39]

A shepherd is someone who watches or guides another person in order to help him grow in Christ.  So shepherds are watchmen in the church today.  Shepherds, aside being overseers or watchmen, they are like evangelist in the church; they do win souls, check up on them and ensure that they are planted and rooted in the foundation of the word.

So what are some of the reasons why we must be shepherds? and what are we going to gain by been shepherds:

1.      Jesus was a shepherd.  “I am the good shepherd.  The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.”  [John 10:11]  He came down to be our shepherd because He saw our waywardness that men were going astray.

2.      It is your natural stage of your development.  You have been Christians a long time now, and you ought to be teaching others.  Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things a beginner must learn about the Scriptures.  You are like babies who drink only milk and cannot eat solid food.” MSB [Heb 5:12]

3.      There is a great need.  “But when He saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.”  KJV  [Matt 9:36]  Friends, become part of the work of God for it is a good thing and a great cause.

4.      God’s people are scattered without a shepherd.  “And they were scattered, because there is no shepherd: and they became meat to all the beasts of the field, when they were scattered.  [ Eze 34:5 ]

5.      Become a shepherd in order to fulfil a great commission.  The greatest commission is a shepherdoral commission.  Go therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.”  Amen  [Matt 28:19]

6.      Become a shepherd so that you can obtain a good reward.  “Those who have serve well gain an excellent standing and great assurance in their faith in Christ Jesus.”  [1Tim 3:13 NIV]   A good heavenly degree will give you comfort and blessings in Heaven.

7.      Become a shepherd so that you can combine material and spiritual growth.  “Godliness with contentment is great gain” 1Tim 6:6

8.      Become a shepherd because people are hungry for the truth.  It is only the truth that can satisfy people.

9.      Become a shepherd because people need to be visited and strengthened.
