STORIES FROM HIGH PLACES
A young, energetic and hard working lady met
this vibrant and lively young man. They
became friends and later fell in love with each other. They dated about 5
years. During these years, things were
not working really well for this young man but the lady who was working with a
reputable institution was doing quite well.
Notwithstanding the hardships he was
going through, this young man loved the lady unconditionally and made it known
to everyone in his family that she was the lady he was bringing home as a wife.
However, this young lady started
listening to the advice of her friends coupled with her mother’s strong
influence on her life and her relationship.
One day, during their conversation over the phone, the lady said to the
young man, “let us break up, I can no longer continue with this
relationship. After our break however,
you can come and look for me”. Shocked, the young man broke down emotionally.
After that incident and all the
emotional trauma he went through, the young man found peace in God and rested
on his promises of His word. With all
that happened, the young man was still willing to fight for the
relationship. But the lady’s parents
were also not in support of the relationship.
They vowed to never agree to their union because of their dislike for
the man’s tribe. Claiming his tribe
people were evil. The lady also listened
to her family and finally ended the relationship. Not long after, she entered a new
relationship with a rich man who happened to be from her tribe.
Heart-broken and alone, the young man
assured himself of the promises of God; meditating on is favourite scripture
Jeremiah 29:11. A year later, this young
man won an American visa lottery and travelled to the states where he completed
his masters and gained employment as the senior vice president of one of the
most reputable institutions in the United States.
The young lady after marrying the rich
man from her tribe realized that “not all that glitters is not gold”. After the marriage, the young lady was
constantly physically abused by her husband sometimes for no reason at
all. This resulted in her losing three
pregnancies and also not being able to use her right eye and right arm.
The young man returned from the states
with his beautiful black American wife and three beautiful children. He also established one of the most reputable
companies in the country.
One day, they met at an event and upon
seeing the transformation of his ex had experienced, the lady instantly
regretted her decision. She blamed it on
her family for the influence they had on her.
LESSONS
1.
When
accepting someone into your life, be genuinely in love with him or her and not
just what he or she has. Also learn to
study/investigate them before you hurriedly accept them.
2.
In
their bid to win you over, people will show you what you want to see which they
know will influence your decision.
3.
The
future is unpredictable, never write anyone off. You have no idea what he or she will become.
4.
When
people cast you down, trust God to lift you up.
Hold on to God’s word and in hard work and determination, your glory
will be seen.
5.
Everyone
is responsible for his or her actions.
Our decisions may be influenced by friends and even family but you hold
the final say. And it behoves on you
what the outcome will be.
6.
As
much as we are to listen to the voice of our parents in certain matters
concerning our lives, the strongest voice in our lives as Christians must be
the voice of the Holy Spirit and if we allow the Holy Spirit guide our choices
and decisions, the same Holy Spirit is capable of convicting and convincing our
parents about what is truly right for us.
7.
To
never judge anyone by his or her tribe.
8.
To
never look down on anyone in this world, because time and seasons change and
people are not always who you think they are.
9.
To
always allow the Holy Spirit influence our choices and our decisions.
