“And it came to past afterward that I will
pour out My spirit on all flesh; your sons and daughters shall prophesy, your
old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions.” Joel
2:28
The prophetic
ministry is one of the oldest ministries in the bible. The prophetic is so
profound that it can travel with you in the past and bring the present so that
you can prepare for the future. The prophetic ministry may not be your idea
ministry but as a believer you should subscribe to all the five fold ministry of Jesus Christ: Apostolic, prophetic, pastoral, evangelistic and the teaching ministry.
·
Prophecy reveals the
thoughts and the interest of God. Anything God intends to do is first revealed
to his Prophet… Surely the Lord God does nothing, unless He reveals His secret to His
servants the prophets.” Amos 3:7
When God reveal to His servant the prophet,
then it means He (God) is ready to perform what He has said. “So
my word that proceeds from my mouth will not return to Me empty, but it will
accomplish what I please, and it will prosper where I send it." Isaiah 55:11
·
The gift of prophesy is the gift of the
Holy Spirit. All the gifts of the spirit in 1Cor 12:8-10 has it source from one, the Holy
Spirit. “…To another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to
another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to
another the interpretation of tongues.” 1Cor 12:8-10
·
The essence of prophecy is the revelation
of Jesus. Prophecy is to reveal Jesus and his ministry. “And behold, you
will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS.”
Luke 1:31. Virgin Mary receive this prophetic word from a messenger of God called angel Gabriel that a child is going to be born and he will lay down his life to save the world. This prophecy about Jesus eventually
came to past. [See also Isaiah 53:4-5] John the baptist also prophesy concerning Jesus that he (John) just came to prepare the way of Jesus for His ministry to be established on earth forever. John replied in the words of Isaiah the prophet: “I am a voice of one calling in the wilderness, Make straight the way for the Lord." John 1:23

Prophecy carries God’s ability to perform.
“For as the rain comes down and the
snow from heaven, and do not return there, but water the earth, and make it
bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater,
so shall my word be that goes from My mouth; it shall prosper accomplish what
it I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.” Isaiah 55:10-11
·
All can prophesy but not all are prophet.
When the Holy Spirit comes upon man, he is empowered to prophesy even though he
may not necessary be a prophet. There was a popular saying that ‘Is Saul also
among the prophets?’ When the spirit of God came upon King Saul, he also prophesy.
“So Saul went to Naioth in Ramah. But the Spirit of God came
upon even Saul, and he walked along prophesying until he came to Naioth in
Ramah. And Saul stripped off his robe and also prophesy before
Samuel. And he collapsed and lay naked all that day and night. That is why it is
said ‘Is Saul also among the prophet?’ “ 1Sam 19:23-24 [Berean Study Bible]

You must place value on prophesy. Your
value of prophesy (or on prophetic things) determines what you do with it. “Do
not despise prophecies.” 1Thes 5:20
- Prophecy in all plays a major role in our lives. The bible itself is a compilation of prophecies. A major chunk of the bible are prophecies and shouldn't be despised. For example there is a prophecy that in the last days the love of many will grow cold: and men will be lovers of themselves and lovers of money. Please read the whole book of 2 Timothy chapter 3.
