“Not all of us can do great things but we can do
small things with great love” Mother Teresa
Love is not a complicated subject as many people think. A
lot of people have been hurt having put their whole heart into one unhealthy
relationship and as a result have vowed not to love again. Some too have went
into the extreme of committing suicide because their lover broke their heart.
But I am not talking about that kind of love, I am introducing you to the love
for humanity. One of the greatest commandment in the bible is to Love God and
your neighbor.
The love that thinks about the well-being of others first, the
love that care for the poor, the love that gives to the needy with
cheerfulness; this is the love we ought to subscribe to.
The book of James give a profound prototype of the love
that pleases the Father in James 1:27 “Pure and undefiled religion before God
and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble,
and to keep oneself unspotted in the world.”
The key category of people whom we have to care for are
the poor, the orphan, the needy and the widow. These are the least privilege
groups of people in our society; the people who lack basic needs: food,
clothing, shelter and many more. These are the people we have around us, some
are even our neighbor’s so we shouldn’t look unconcerned about their needs. Love
is simply living for others. It involves sacrifice. “The fruit of
love is service, which is compassion in action.” Mother Teresa
So from today forward, donate to the needy in your
community, pay the fees of that brilliant child whose parent are poor, visit
any orphanage near you and put a smile on their faces, feed the person who is
hungry, visit your friend who is in the hospital, give your seat to the elderly
person in the bus, donate to help disaster victims. Help them if it is your
power to do so and do not turn your back on them.
Most of the time we wait until Easter or Christmas before
we donate to charity. We should rather make it a habit to express our love all
the time knowing that we will receive a reward for our effort.
“Give, and it will be given to you: Good
measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your
bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to
you.” Luke 6:38
In all, remember that doesn’t cost much to love. “Not
all of us can do great things but we can do small things with great love.” Mother Teresa
