One of our church members accompanied me when I was
once invited to preach at a certain fellowship.
He was surprised at how I preached with the same zeal and passion at
that same small gathering as I do at bigger gatherings. Maybe he was thinking the crowd should have
determined my delivery, but it did not.
Most of us find ourselves making this mistake and
thereby shutting away opportunities. We
give our best delivery when we think we have a larger or a high personality
profile crowd. But you never can tell
who is watching you in that small unassuming crowd. Your destiny helper could be among that
crowd.
David was a gifted young man who was trusting God for
bigger platforms where he could showcase his gift to the world. Whiles waiting for that opportunity, he made
a decision to always give his best when playing his harp whether to the sheep
in the wilderness or his friends.
In due course, when the need for a musician arose in
the palace, it was one of David’s casual clients who recommended him to the King. I am sure David wouldn’t have gotten that
recommendation if his delivery on the ‘low ranking’ platforms were
haphazard. (See 1 Samuel 16:1)
“When you perceive life as a daily
audition, you learn to always put up your best show no matter who you encounter.”
Never despise your audience: You never know who is
watching from that unassuming crowd.
Some of us have failed our audition before our destiny helpers because
they did not appear in royal apparel.
Wherever you find yourself, endeavour to leave a
positive mark. Many people are watching
you carefully without your knowledge.
You don’t always need to know who you are dealing with before giving off
your best.
Which is why the everyday example you set not just in
the big moments but in your routine activities matters. Small things can make a big difference.
You’ll never know exactly who you’re inspiring or who
is admiring you from afar and values your example beyond all others.
Many have risen to the pinnacle of their profession
through recommendations from people who took notice of them while they were
giving off their best in their little corner.
