Through observation, I have realized that every young person who desire to make impact in their field is most often faced with the challenge of developing uniqueness especially when those who have gone ahead in that field have made it using a particular style.
I once listened to a preacher who is a mentee to a famous Tele-Evangelist talk about his experience on this subject. He disclosed how he struggled earlier in his own ministry because he thought the only way he could make it was to preach and act like his mentor. According to him, his struggle continued until he learnt to develop and build his own uniqueness.
A similar scenario occurred in 1 Samuel 17 : 38 – 40 when King Saul gave David his amour to wear and fight Goliath. But upon trying it on, David realized he couldn’t move freely because that was not his style. He took it off and fought Goliath with his own style and won the battle.
“One of your greatest advantages in your field of work lies in your ability to develop your uniqueness. You can learn from others but don’t lose your identity.”
Most young preachers struggle to stand out in
ministry because they want to preach because they want to preach and act like
other established preachers. It is not
wrong to learn from other established individuals, but learn to develop your
own style.
People are looking for the “unique you”
and not the “photocopy of another person”.
When you build consistency with your uniqueness, it becomes your
trademark.
There is a unique way of doing things in your
field that has not yet been discovered.
There is still a fashion trend, preaching style, soccer tactics, journalism method, music style and other unique styles that are yet to be experienced.
