“I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving.” Psalm 69:30
“Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.” Psalm 100:4
It is a good thing to give thanks to God and to sing praises to his name once you are alive and breathing – you cannot give thanks when you die so thanksgiving should be a daily thing. When you wake up from sleep just say ‘Thank you Lord Jesus’ it’s very simple! Once you see good things happening in your life don’t make the mistake of attributing it to luck… it is the doing of the Lord so give thanks. Anytime you see something good in your life, remember that God is at work. “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.” Psalm 23:6
MYSTERIES OF THANKSGIVING
1. To see anything good in your life means God is at work so give him thanks. Thou should remember the Lord thy God for it is He that give Thee power to get wealth and many more miracles. Any increase or blessings or undeserved favours are all signs of the hand of God at work. Unthankfulness is a dangerous sin.
2. Thankfulness helps you to avoid the madness of forgetfulness. Anytime you forget God, you are behaving like a mad person because mad people are the ones who don’t remember anything. “If you will not hear, and if you will not take it to heart, to give glory to My name,“ says the LORD of hosts, “I will send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings. Yes, I have cursed them already, because you do not take it to heart…” [Mal 2 : 2 – 5] Giving thanks is a sign of the fear of God.
3. Thankfulness helps us to avoid the sins of the last days. “But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good“ 2Tim 3:1- 3
Thanksgiving is praising God for all his goodness towards you. “Oh, that men give thanks to the LORD for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men!” Psalm 107:8
Thanksgiving is giving glory due his name. “Give unto the LORD the glory due to His name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.” Psalm 29:2
Thanksgiving is appreciating God for his goodwill of salvation. “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” Luke 2:14
BENEFIT OF THANKSGIVING
1) Thanksgiving procures continuous favour. “But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You; let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them; let those also who love Your name be joyful in You. For You, O LORD, will bless the righteous; with favour You will surround him as with a shield” [Psalm 5:11 – 12]
2) Thanksgiving maintains the freshness and the continuity of your prosperity. Until you start thanking God you will never see any significant changes in your life. “It is good to give thanks to the LORD, and to sing praises to Your name, O Most High.” Psalm 92:1
