Before we lead others we must first learn to lead
ourselves. “The locust had no king yet they all advance in ranks.” Pro
30:27 from the scripture we can learn 3 things from the life of locust.
No king: the locust has no
king yet they are self-motivated, wake up on time, and take responsibility.
Move in ranks:
the locust is self-discipline insect. Although no one is instructing them but
they move in ranks and not a haphazard manner.
Leadership does not start when you get a position in
life or you lobby for one… It start when you develop a self-governed life. A
self-governed life is where you motivate yourself, direct yourself and where
you discipline yourself.
PROCESS
WE GO THROUGH TO BE SELF -GOVERNED PEOPLE
Spirit-led people:
to go through the process of self-government, we should follow the governor
(Holy Spirit) of our life. We become self-governed individuals when we are set
free from the power of sin, free from Satan’s power and control and free from
bad habits and addictions. It is the Holy Spirit who set us free… He is the
great emancipator.
“I say then: walk in the spirit, and you shall not
fulfill the last of the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that
you do not do the things that you wish.” Gal 5:16 To walk in the spirit
takes discipline to do that so the first rule of thumb to consider is working towards
self-discipline. You wake up by your own accord, you go to work early, you
sleep 6 hours a day, and you play volley on Sundays at exactly 3 pm. That is
self-disciplined person.
Ruled by the word of God: a
self-governed person adopt a new constitution. When Ghana gained independence
from the British, they adopted their own constitution, elected a leader
(president) and appointed ministers to help the president carry his duty. In
the same way, as a Christians, your new constitution is the word of God. A
self-governed person go by the constitution of God just like how any
independent country will do things according to their own way and not according
to the way of their masters who once governed them. You live your life by the
scripture. You do what it says.
SIGNS
OF A SELF GOVERNED PERSON
You assume full ownership of your choices.
A self-governed person assumes full responsibility of his or her choices; the
places you go, the things you spend your money on, and the people you keep as
friends. They all converge to accepting the consequences of your choices or
actions.
A self-governed person accept personal responsibility
for his or her choices… Meaning you are fully responsible for the outcome of
your life. When you take a decision, you bare the full responsibility of the
consequences of that decision. Self-government means I am in charge by the help
of the Holy Spirit.
A self-governed person accept values and
principles to guide their lives. As a self-governed
person, you decide how you want to live your life: you live your life based on
some principles or values or wisdom and not on someone’s idiosyncrasy. You
decide how to spend your money, the time to go for lectures, you decide how to
train your children, you decide how to treat people, and you decide what to
invest in and so on. The principles or the values you lay down is what you
follow as a blueprint for your life. So learn to discover values or principles
that can help make your life a better one.
“Whoever
has no rule over his own spirit is like a city broken down, without walls.”
